We are a rescue group - we don't believe cats should be killed just because there are so many of them, or because they have a lifestyle or habits that people don't like.
Much of our work is with feral cats. These cats live out their lives often unseen by most of the population. If the colonies are left to grow the kittens become weaker through inbreeding and lack of resources, the adults often have short, miserable lives Over the years we have dealt with colonies in factories, foundries, housing estates, industrial estates, farms, in fact probably most places you could think of. We trap the adult cats for neuter and return to site. This limits the numbers and thus improves living conditions. When we can get the kittens young enough, we take them into care for rehoming as ordinary pets. Sick and injured ferals, and the very old, are also taken into care (we look after the cats in a network of foster homes where they are all treated as family pets - ferals too) With stray non ferals we also neuter and return to site healthy adults, ensuring they are at least being fed. Those unable to cope outdoors, e.g. sick, injured, old and young, mothers with kittens, are taken into care. There is no limit to the time they are kept in care. If we cannot find a suitable permanent home for a cat, it stays in its foster home. The Cat Register and Rescue started in the Falkirk area in the mid nineteen eighties, and we were granted charitable status in 1991. We have always been a completely voluntary organisation. Funding is by donations and constant fundraising efforts. All monies raised are spent on the welfare of the cats.
